Commemorating the first day of the Korean calendar, the Lunar New Year is a festive day celebrated throughout the country. One of the most important traditional holidays, this celebration brings families together to give gifts, play games, and eat lots of Korean food. One of the best comfort foods to try in Korea for the new year is rice cake soup, a spicy and hearty dish that is sure to warm up your heart on this chilly winter night.

Chewy rice cakes dipped in spicy sauce served fresh on the streets of Seoul, piles of kimchee and pork at KBBQ, and Airbnbs located in the center of the city for under 50$ a night- you have to try to break your budget here. Enjoy the rich cultural history of South Korea, plenty of fun tourist attractions, gorgeous temples, and landscapes all for a fair price at this frequently overlooked budget-travel holy grail.

While Korea has always been open to foreign travel- as of April 1st quarantine is gone for entering vaccinated travelers. Plan your next summer vacation touring the bustling streets of Seoul, hiking up Achasan to witness traditional architecture and fresh air, or taking a trip to Jeju for an island vacation. South Korea is full of excitement, history, culture, and some of the most comforting food on the planet.
