So you are ready to explore one of California’s best national parks? Sequoia National Park is a nature lovers paradise- home to some of the biggest trees in the world and the highest peak in the contiguous United States.

But when is the best time to visit Sequoia National Park?

All four seasons offer spectacular experiences in Sequoia National Park. Most people visit in the summer, making it more crowded than other times of year. Temperatures in the summer vary depending on elevation. Although the lower foothills of the park are very hot, the sequoia groves located at higher elevations are often more comfortable. In fact, on any given day, temperatures can vary by 20-30 degrees in different parts of Sequoia National Park due to the varying elevations.

The mild seasons are spring and fall, when daytime is cooler and the evenings are still warm enough to camp. Elevations at some of the top attractions at Sequoia National Park average 6500 feet, so roads are often closed during the winter months, making it the least popular time. But if you love winterscapes, don’t let that stop you. Skiing and snowshoeing are two top things to do in Sequoia National Park.
