  Every Black Bear Diner features a sweeping, colorful, bear-mottled mural, created by the dynamic duo of Steve and Gary Fitzgerald. The Gilroy restaurant features golden California hills and green trees, accompanied by several bears.

  The Gilroy Historic Paseo is a pathway that conveniently connects the shops and restaurants on Monterey Street with adjacent free parking lots. As you stroll through the Paseo, take a moment to look at the historic murals and interpretative panels to learn more about the city’s storied past, from the Early Settlers and roots of Agriculture through The Cowboy Era, the growth of Commerce and Hospitality, and of course, Gilroy’s long love affair with Garlic.

  California poppies are in full bloom on what would have been a blank wall at downtown Gilroy’s newest parking lot on Fourth and Monterey streets. A handful of local residents came together to create the design and paint the mural.

  The whimsical mural painted by Scott Lance portrays characters from childhood favorite author Dr. Seuss. It’s situated on Martin Street near OD’s Kitchen, a beloved downtown Gilroy restaurant famous for its delicious breakfast dishes.

• Community Thrives at your Gilroy Public Library Mural in Gilroy, United States

  This eye-catching mural, painted by local artist Sheryl Cathers, captures the imagination and magic of reading. Measuring 96 feet long and 8 feet tall, the expansive mural covers the back, exterior wall of the Gilroy Library, which opened in 2012 as the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified building within the Santa Clara County Library. Gilroy’s library has grown to 150,000 volumes including over 400 periodicals and the largest Spanish Language collection in the Santa Clara County Library. A unique 200 phono-record collection from the KFAT radio station are stored here.

  A large circus tree from Gilroy Gardens and a DeLorean vehicle hovering near Old City Hall are prominent in the eclectic mural painted by artist Armando Franco and local students. Planting seeds for the community’s future is the mural’s central theme.

• Train Mural "Southern Pacific Coast Daylight GS-4" in Gilroy, United States

  The mural covering the side of 5th Street Coffee next to Gourmet Alley, painted by Scott Lance, depicts a locomotive built in 1914 by Lima Locomotive Works. It was famous for its colors, as well as for pulling the Coast Daylight Trains 98 and 99, which carried passengers from San Francisco to Los Angeles along the scenic coast of California in under 10 hours.

  Originally created by Tecolote Corps (under the Tortuga Patrol), the mural at San Ysidro Park was restored by Community Agency for Resources, Advocacy, & Services (C.A.R.A.S), the city of Gilroy, artist Guillermo Aranda, and community interns in 2014.

• La Piedra del Sol Mural in Gilroy, United States

  Restoration of the beautiful La Piedra del Sol mural, or the Sun Stone, is underway. The 25-by-75 mural, which depicts the Aztec Calendar, was originally painted by a group of local teenagers on the back of Tacos Del Guero Restaurant. It’s a source of pride for the local Mexican-American community and is being restored by many of the original artists with the help of a group of younger generation artists.

• Women’s Downtown Collaborative Mural in Gilroy, United States

  Abstract flowers splash across the 945-square foot wall of the back of the Neon Exchange building. Spearheaded by local artist Whitney Pintello and Neon Exchange founder Toni Bowles, the mural was painted with mostly left-over paint by community members, including mother-daughter teams over three weekends.

  Entitled “Home of the Brave,” the massive mural captures a flag waving across the Veteran’s Hall building at the corner of Eigleberry and Sixth streets. The mural celebrates the identity of the building, which is visited by veterans weekly for socials, Bingo, memorial services, and other events.

  “Celebrating the Arts” is emblazoned on the 1,800-square foot wall of the Gilroy Center for the Arts. Commissioned by the Leadership Gilroy class of 2017, the mural was painted by Sheryl Cathers in a comic book motif. Encouraging young people to appreciate and engage in the arts, the mural depicts children representing various demographics happily active in various visual and performing arts, including theater, music, culinary arts, architecture, literary arts, photography, cinematic arts, painting, and dance.

  The “Art is my Voice” mural, boldly displayed on the back of Downtown Furniture, is a colorful expression of Gilroy landmarks, positive messages and numerous other details inspired by young people. The mural was painted by youths of MANOS and 6th Street Studios & Art Center’s’ Youth Mentorship Program and funded by the Gilroy Foundation and the California Arts Council.
