Making the Most Out of Playas del Coco

Jennifer Zollo

In a beach town that doesn’t believe in real addresses (good luck at customs lol), it can be difficult to figure out where you should go and where some basics like a grocery store and bank are. I’m here to help!

Diamante Eco Adventure Park, Rich Coast Diving, Heladeria El Coco, Súper Compro El Coco, Banco Nacional, Le Coq, Coconutz Brewhouse, Zi Lounge

A little outside of Coco so you'll definitely need to hire a taxi, but they have a really cool superman zipline with ocean views (as well as 4 other ziplines and an animal sanctuary). Beautiful, clean, incredibly safe, and the staff is incredibly knowledgeable.

This is where I personally did my Open Water cert. Every time I mentioned to someone familiar with the area that I was diving with them, they all said “OMG THEY’RE THE BEST!” If hostels are your thing, they have a hostel that only houses people diving with them. It worked out well for me, but if you want a reliable air conditioner…maybe stay somewhere else😂

I almost don’t want to add this place because as soon as you go you’ll become addicted…seriously great ice cream that is the perfect reward for a day spent diving (or a reward for making it through another day in the suffocating humidity!)

It’s not the biggest grocery store, but they’ll have what you need

Don’t let the modest facade fool you, this place has some of the greatest Mediterranean food I’ve ever eaten! It’s not on the menu, but ask for the half schwarma and half souvlaki on a plate. Thank me later.

It’s a brewery…it’s a restaurant…it’s a bar…it’s Coconutz! Good beer, super cool vibe, really yummy lobster fries, and some great music as long as it isn’t karaoke night lol

Instead if Taco Tuesdays, this place does Taco Wednesdays! $3 tacos and they’re the size of your face, so only start with one.
