Things to do in Santorini Greece

The quintessential Greek island covered with blue and white buildings and surrounded by the glittering Aegean Sea is a dream destination for many. There is so much more to do and see here than just relaxing in your cliffside hot tub watching the beautiful sunset; although that tends to be what draws people to Santorini Greece in the first place.

  If you think you're a stair master, then you have to walk down to Ammoudi Bay from Oia. There are some great tavernas down on the water that have the freshest seafood that I've ever had. You can also rest and refuel for your walk back up the cliff!

  If you're interested in learning more about the history of Santorini visit the Museum of Prehistoric Thera to see some ancient artifacts that were uncovered in archaeology of the island.

  Along the west side of the island you can walk pretty much from Thera all the way up to Oia (although I wouldn't recommend it). However exploring the path between Thera and Imerovigli you will come across Skaros Rock that was formed by the volcano (many years ago).

  At the southern tip of the island, you will find an adorable lighthouse that looks out on the Aegean Sea. It gets very busy and if you are driving you will have to park on the side of the road and walk up. It is not too far, but make sure you have good shoes so you can explore on the rocks by the lighthouse!

  I bet you didn't know that there was a brewing company on Santorini Island! This small brewery imports hops for their beers, but brew them with local flavors to make them unique. My husband preferred the "Crazy Donkey" which is an IPA, but my favorite was the "Red Donkey" which was a little lighter.

  Just down the road from Nomikos Estate Farm, you can visit this underground wine museum and learn about cultivating grapes in volcanic soil with such little precipitation! They also do wine tasting so be sure to get yourself a glass or two.

  A small farm toward the middle of the island of Santorini, here you can walk around and explore the crops and watch the process of farming in volcanic soil. Be sure to pick up some Greek Pistachios or some fava beans to take home with you!

  Venetsanos Winery is a smaller winery on the island but has a wonderful selection of wines. My favorite was the rose that tastes nothing like the rose wine you get in the US. Like many Santorini wine it is crisp and fresh.

  One of the largest producers and exporters of Santorini wines, Santo Winery is a great place to come to relax with a glass of wine and some charcuterie while enjoying the view of the caldera.

  One of the oldest archaeological sites on the island, Akrotiri is a great way to learn about the history of the island. The entire site is covered and enclosed to protect it from the sun and ocean breeze.
