Just 65km off the main road between Bloemfontein and Cape Town lies a true hidden gem—Waterkloof Craft Beer in Philippolis. 🍺🍸 Locally known for their craft beer and gin made with native Karoo botanicals, this little spot offers some of the most insightful stories and warmest hospitality around. From tastings under grapevines to a tech-free experience complete with quirky yellow and red timeout chairs, it’s a place full of charm, character, and heart. Owners Oom Pierre and Tannie Corrie are passionate about their brews, their town, and creating a space where visitors can slow down, connect, and enjoy something truly local. Whether it’s the bush-inspired beers, gin made with Karoo plants, or the stories around the old stoves and antiques—it’s a stop not to be missed!

We absolutely love visiting Tanya at Gin & Company in the beautiful Casterbridge Centre in White River. She always makes us feel like part of the family! This is truly Mpumalanga’s premier craft gin micro-distillery, offering not only top-quality, small-batch gin but also a wonderfully personal and welcoming experience. A hidden gem in a stunning setting—definitely worth a stop if you’re in the area. Cheers to great gin and even better hospitality! 🍸

Ngweni Railroad Brewery & Cafe, South Africa

Ngweni Railroad Brewery is a true gem in Hluhluwe! After a day spotting rhinos in Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park, there’s nothing better than a cold Ngweni Lager and a great meal. The vibe is relaxed, the food is fantastic, and the beer is top-notch. We stayed at Hluhluwe Country Cottages and loved being able to walk to the brewery. Don’t miss the Ilala Weavers shop and their amazing coffee right next door. A perfect combo of adventure and refreshment—we’ll definitely be back!

That Brewing Company in Durban, South Africa
- beertroopy
That Brewing Co is one of Durban’s hidden gems! 🍺 Tucked away at the back of Robson’s on Point, this small independent brewery produces some truly outstanding beers. While the brewery does not have a taproom setup, owner and brewer Paul is welcoming to the occasional walk-in visitor – just swing by if you’re curious. That Brewing Co’s beers are best enjoyed at Unity Bar in Morningside, where they really shine alongside great food and a vibrant crowd. A true local treasure for anyone who appreciates honest, well-crafted beer.
