Creating a Calendar Widget for an Email or Newsletter

Seeker Events Network | All Plans
This article explains how to build a filtered events calendar widget for your email or newsletter and copy the HTML code into your email platform.

Your newsletter is one of the best places to promote what’s happening in your destination. The Email embed builder turns the events already on your calendar into a ready-to-paste HTML block, so you can drop a curated list of upcoming events into any email without rebuilding listings by hand. Filter by category or date, choose a layout, pick which event details to show, and link readers back to your full calendar.

How to Create a Calendar Widget for an Email or Newsletter

  1. Log in to your Seeker dashboard
  2. Click ‘Events’ in the left sidebar
  3. Click ‘Embed’ from the submenu
  4. Click the ‘Email’ tab
  5. Click ‘Add filter’ to narrow down which events appear in your email
  6. Open the filter type dropdown (it shows ‘Category’ by default) and choose what to filter by, such as ‘Date’
  7. Click ‘Select date’ and choose a range, such as ‘This weekend’
  8. Open the layout dropdown and choose how events are displayed, such as ‘Grid’ or ‘List’
  9. Click ‘Fields’ to expand the section and choose which event details appear in your email
  10. Enter your calendar page URL (for example, https://www.mywebsite.com/events) so readers can click through to your full calendar
  11. Click ‘Copy code’ to copy the HTML
  12. Paste the code into a custom HTML or code block in your email or newsletter editor

Adding the Widget to Your Email

The code you copy is standard HTML, so it works in any email or newsletter platform that lets you add a custom HTML or code block.

  • Add a custom HTML or code block where you want events to appear in your email.
  • Paste the code from ‘Copy code’ into that block.
  • Send yourself a test email to check how the events look on desktop and mobile before sending to your full list.

Tips for Newsletter Event Widgets

  • Match the date filter to your send schedule. A weekly newsletter pairs naturally with a ‘This weekend’ filter so readers see only what’s coming up next.
  • Use categories for themed sends. Filter by a single category, such as music or family events, when a newsletter is built around one audience or theme.
  • Keep the fields focused. Show the details readers need to decide at a glance, like the title, date, and venue, and let the link to your calendar do the rest.
  • Always add your calendar URL. It sends newsletter readers back to your website, where they can browse every event.
