The largest tree in the world by volume is indisputably General Sherman, located in the Giant Forest at Sequoia National Park. It is 275 feet (83 m) tall and over 36 feet (11 m) in diameter at the base. General Sherman is estimated to be 2200 years old.
General Sherman is one of several famous trees within Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks and one of the best things to see in Sequoia National Park. The high elevation of the Sierra Nevada Mountains provides an ideal climate for the giant sequoias, unique to California.
