United States Minnesota St. Cloud

Beaver Island Trailhead

A scenic recreational starting point featuring paved paths for biking, hiking, and enjoying riverside views amid diverse wildlife and vegetation.

Tips from the community

The Beaver Islands are a grouping of islands in the Mississippi River on the south side of St. Cloud near St. Cloud State that were named by the famous explorer Zebulon Pike due to the “immense signs of those animals, for they have dams on every island…” Located along the same stretch of the Mississippi is the Beaver Island Trail, five miles of paved walking, biking, and rollerblading paths. On this trail, scenic views of the Mississippi peak through natural wooded areas as this urban oasis opens up to downtown St. Cloud. Plus, the trail ends with an extension in downtown St. Cloud, that suspends over the river just below the River’s Edge Convention Center, with some of the best river views in the area!

A new addition to the downtown landscape allows walker, bikers and anyone in between can now walk beyond the banks of the Mississippi River thanks to the Beaver Island Trail Extension in Downtown St. Cloud. Located along the river stretch from Cathedral High School football field to the Highway 23 bridge, this suspended bridge offers stunning views from a unique angle of the river, the bridges over it, and the urban landscape of downtown around it. Perfect for a short stroll and a photo session, this new hotspot is a must-see for visitors, and a loved attraction for residents.
