After backpacking through Southeast Asia’s endless rainforests and rice paddies, you’re sure to be pining for the sea. It comes with Koh Rong and the glistening waters of the Thai Gulf. Shaped like an egg timer, this island sits off the jetties of Preah Sihanouk with its ramshackle bamboo huts and reggae bars. It’s a fine combo of party island (think bucket cocktails until four) and beach mecca (the sand here is cotton white and lapped by see-through waters). The best of the coastline comes with Sok San Beach and its deluxe villa resort, and secluded Long Set Beach, where the twilight heralds shows of bioluminescent plankton along the shore.

Beach lovers will be in heaven visiting Koh Rong. The second largest island in Cambodia has everything needed for a proper beach holiday; activities, wildlife and spots for every type of traveller. Snorkelling is best at Coconut beach where you can spot seahorses, rays and sometimes squid. If you still need more wildlife after your swim then Police Beach is ideal because of the butterfly farm. For the adventurous travellers there’s diving, kayaking and even a zip lining park. If you’re ok with heights then the rope adventure is awesome!

Located in the South West of Cambodia, Koh Rong is a tropical island- and a little slice of paradise. Away from all the activity on the mainland, Koh Rong encompasses sandy white shorelines, turquoise waters, and an easygoing atmosphere for some serious r&r.
