Enabling Smart Categories
Seeker Events Network | All Plans
This article explains how to enable Smart Categories so Seeker automatically assigns categories to events based on your taxonomy.
Smart Categories uses AI to automatically tag incoming events with the categories you’ve already defined. When enabled, events pulled from connected sources or submitted by the community are matched against your taxonomy without requiring manual review for every listing.
How to Enable Smart Categories
- Log in at Seeker.
- Click ‘Settings’ in the left sidebar.
- Click ‘Categories’ in the Settings navigation.
- Click the ‘Event Categories’ tab.
- Toggle ‘Smart Categories’ to the on position.
Smart Categories is now active. Seeker will begin automatically categorizing incoming events against your taxonomy.
How Smart Categories Works
Smart Categories reads the categories you’ve created in your Event Categories tab and uses them as the taxonomy for AI matching. Events are evaluated against your category names and descriptions when they enter your calendar through the Discover Feed or the community submissions flow. The more clearly your category names and descriptions reflect what each category covers, the more accurately events are matched.
Tips for Better Category Matching
- Use descriptive category names. ‘Music’ is less useful than ‘Live Music & Concerts’ when the AI is trying to distinguish it from ‘Arts & Culture’.
- Add category descriptions. When you create or edit a category, the description field gives the AI additional context for matching. A short sentence about what belongs in the category improves accuracy.
- Review early matches. After enabling Smart Categories, check a few incoming events to confirm the matching aligns with your expectations. You can always reassign categories manually on individual events.
