Firehole River Swimming Area

A natural geothermal-heated bathing spot in a famed national park, popular with visitors for warm-water swimming amidst wild landscapes.

Tips from the community

One of the rare swimming-friendly spots in this iconic National Park, the Firehole River Swimming Area presents some dangers so make sure to do your research and partake cautiously. A stream of revitalizing cool waters amongst rocky terrain and rows of trees, the Firehole River Swimming Area is a popular destination for tourists in the summer to take a dip in refreshing, clear natural waters that are heated deep underground by a volcano(!). Don't be alarmed however, although some of the waters are comfortably warm, there is plenty of refreshing and icy streams to help you beat the summer heat.
