Tips from the community
One road in, one road out – that’s the remoteness of the North Cascades National Park. Even the winding, wiggling route of the 20 highway offers only glimpses of this 500,000-acre wilderness, which reaches all the way north to the US-Canada border in a medley of summits that easily surpass 9,000 feet. This ain’t your bite-sized sort of place, just as Buckner Mountain and the twisted Black Peak should reveal, although there are some excellent off-piste adventurers for those who don’t mind being all alone out there a la John Muir.

Because the North Cascades pull you away from the buzz of Seattle to Washington State’s less-trodden quarters, they are a hotspot for Pacific Northwest animal life. A trio of species really tops the bill: the grizzly, the gray wolf, and the endangered Canada lynx.

North Cascades in Washington state is the most probable park where one would suffer a fatal accident, as concluded by the National Parks Service in 2018. One of the least popular national parks to visit in the country, the rugged geography combined with glacial features and lack of road and other infrastructures is what truly exposes visitors to the wilderness.

North Cascades is my favorite national park in Washington and one of my favorite in the US! Considered the American Alps, this mountain range offered impressive sites. Bright blue lakes in the valleys, gorgeous pine forests, and snow and glaciated peaks in the alpine. The diversity and expansive views are magnificent.
