Many are multi-day festivals, often beginning during or just before <a href=\"https:\/\/seeker.io\/halloween-events\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">Halloween events<\/a>, and extending through All Saints&#8217; Day (November 1), All Souls&#8217; Day (November 2), and beyond. Up to a week before the famous <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"festival in Latin America (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/seeker.io\/festivals-latin-america\/\" target=\"_blank\">festival in Latin America<\/a>, there is plenty to see and do. Locals go to nearby <em>cempasuchil<\/em> (marigold) farms to take pictures and buy the bright orange flowers for Day of the Dead. Businesses decorate their fa\u00e7ades with flowers and elaborate altars. Celebrations begin on October 31 with altars, makeup, and locals visiting the graves of their loved ones. Similar to Halloween, children dress as angels and carry candlelit <em>calabazas<\/em> (squash) and <em>cebadera <\/em>(woven bags). The two-mile All Souls Procession features a giant urn where parade-goers can place their paper messages before they are burned at the conclusion of the parade.
