Nestled between the snow-capped Sangre de Cristo Mountains to the east and the expansive San Luis Valley to the west, the park’s massive sand dunes—the largest in North America—are a place unlike anywhere else in the world. The area’s mountains are home to beautiful alpine lakes and wildflowers, while herds of elk and pronghorns roam the grasslands in the mornings.
