An Act Relating to the Medical Use of Marijuana was passed in 2004 legalizing the use of medical marijuana in the state. In January 2018, Gov. Phil Scott signed H. 511, which eliminated penalties for possession of small amounts of cannabis. In 2020, the state legalized recreational marijuana use and possession through Vermont S. 54. Dispensaries are set to open in March of 2022.
