Mount Fuji

Visiting Japan sometime between July 1st and September 14th? Looking to stretch your legs? If you’re looking to tackle an easy hike, take a casual day trip up to the peak of Mt. Fuji. Okay, we’re joking about the casual part. While this climb is totally doable for hikers of all capabilities, it’s 8 hours long and can be strenuous, even for those in tip top shape. Make sure that you take all necessary precautions, do your research and stay safe. And, most importantly, enjoy the (actually) breath-taking view from the top.

If you are traveling to Tokyo- you won’t miss Mount Fuji, the distinctive mountain is visible in the distance from the capital city. What has inspired art through centuries is also a popular hiking spot. Being the tallest peak in the country, Mt. Fuji isn’t a walk in the park, but it is achievable and presents a stunning journey along the way.

The Sakura (cherry blossoms) of Japan draw visitors from around the globe for their yearly springtime blossom, and the surrounding landscape of Mt. Fuji is one of the best places to take it all in. The pastel-pink flowers around the Fuji Five Lakes typically bloom around mid April. For the best view, head to the Chureito Pagoda or Ubuyagasaki Peninsula during Japan’s cherry blossom festival where you’ll have the staggering mountain peak as your backdrop.

Hiking up Mount Fuji is a life-changing experience, guaranteed to spur some of your most treasured memories. Japan's tallest mountain, Mount Fuji is often used as a symbol of pride for the country, captivating thousands of artists and creators across the globe. Mount Fuji is visible from Tokyo city on a clear day and makes for a beautiful backdrop out the window when taking the bullet train from Tokyo to Osaka. There are some excellent reasons why Japan’s Mt Fuji is one of the most climbed peaks on our planet. Not only is this snow-capped beauty ridiculously picturesque, but it is also one of the most exciting amateur mountain peaks to conquer. The tip of Mt Fuji stands at an impressive 3776m, and several trails and stations along its flanks make it easy to cover as much of the altitude as you like by road, with the last point (Kawaguchi-ko, Station 5) leaving you with ‘only’ an 8hr climb to the peak, including plenty of photo breaks. Many people choose to climb Mt Fuji at night to reach the peak by dawn (yes, it’s stunning), although climbing during the day offers a visual feast the entire time.
