United States Louisiana New Orleans

Cafe Du Monde French Market

Iconic New Orleans coffee shop famous for beignets and chicory coffee, open 24/7 in the French Quarter.

Tips from the community

What’s a trip to New Orleans without sampling some of those famous beignets? Make your way over to the open-air Café du Monde and find a table where you can dig into this sweet French-inspired fried dough. This place will be swarmed in a matter of hours—usually around this time, however, there is little to no wait, so snag a seat while you can! Tip: Don’t wear black here as you’ll get powdered sugar all over! Order your beignets ($3) with a side of chicory coffee ($4). Cash only.

This is the best-known location for Beignets among both locals and tourist. It is one of my favorite places personally due to its open-air concept and amazing beignets and chicory coffee. I have been back numerous times over the years, and it is always the same as I left it! There is no need to fix perfection. Don't forget to grab some of its beignet mix for sale so you can take a taste of Nola home. Feel free to stop by anytime, they are open 7 days a week, 24 hours a day!

Beignets: There is a contested debate in New Orleans over the best beignet. Some side with Cafe Beignet, but my personal favorite will always be Cafe DuMonde. At times the line can span an entire city block due to their notoriety. My advice: get there early, take your order of beignets and chicory coffee to go, and enjoy the sweet, pillowy donuts on the riverwalk.

Cafe Du Monde may be popular and frequented but that hasn’t diminished the quality. The beignets are great, but the frozen coffees are out of this world - seriously, they’re so good that I bought one one morning and another to leave in my hotel mini fridge for later.
