Guide to Saratoga Springs, NY

That isn't just going to the horse races! Saratoga Springs is the northern capital of horse racing. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE a good day at the racetrack, but there is so much more to see and do in Saratoga than just admiring the thoroughbreds.

After a long day of museums, battlefields, and state parks, grab a seat out front at Druthers and enjoy the people watching with a great local craft brew.

  • Old Friends at Cabin Creek in New York, United States

Alright I know I said this list didn't involve horses, but if you're visiting Saratoga the chances are pretty good that you enjoy horses at least a little bit! Old Friends is a nonprofit farm that cares for retired racehorses. There is a partner Old Friends Farm in Lexington Kentucky that is also wonderful. Come here to learn about the thoroughbreds and see some famous retired racehorses!

  • General Philip Schuyler House in New York, United States

A little outside of Saratoga you can visit the historic Schuyler House, home of General Philip Schuyler (and yes father to the Schuyler sisters you know so well from Hamilton). The original house was burned as the British retreated from Saratoga but it was rebuilt in 1777-1778 after the battle.

  • Saratoga National Historical Park in New York, United States

    • mustangdmv

Home of the (first) turning point of the American Revolution, visit Saratoga National Battlefield and walk the grounds that Washington himself was on. Walk the trails and learn about the different points of the battle throughout the park.

  • Saratoga Spa State Park in New York, United States

    • mustangdmv

We've covered a lot of things within the park separately, but a visit to the park for some time spent hiking the trails and enjoying nature is a must. This park is beautiful and filled with trails, picnic tables, and covered pavilions where you can set up chairs and grill out all day! Of course you have to visit the springs and get yourself some fresh spring water!

  • Saratoga Spa Golf Course in New York, United States

    • mustangdmv

Hit the links while you're in town! The capital district has numerous golf courses, but this is certainly one of the more beautiful and slightly challenging courses.

If classic cars are your thing, a visit to the Automobile Museum is a must! Also within Saratoga Spa State Park, this museum houses classic cars and exhibits about how transportation has changed through the years, and its impact on society.

  • Saratoga Performing Arts Center in New York, United States

    • mustangdmv

When you're in Saratoga, you absolutely have to catch a performance or concert at Saratoga Performing Arts Center (SPAC as we locals so lovingly call it). It is a beautiful amphitheater within Saratoga Spa State Park and it is almost guaranteed that there will be some performance happening that will interest you. And I promise there isn't a bad seat in the house (or on the lawn)!

  • National Museum of Dance & Hall of Fame in New York, United States

    • mustangdmv

The Museum of Dance is a great place to visit if you appreciate the art of entertainment and movement. Located in the beautiful Saratoga Spa State Park, the performing arts center was the summer residency for the New York Ballet. There is also a dance school at the museum, so chances are you'll see a few ballerinas wandering the halls as well!

  • The Saratoga Winery in New York, United States

    • mustangdmv

Stop into the Saratoga Winery on a summer evening for some good food, live music and a wine flight. I like that their flight holders are towers that hold your wines vertically instead of just set down in front of you. There is also a great deck and lawn out back where you can hang out and enjoy the night.
