Things to do in San Francisco with Kids

My favorite kid-friendly spots in the city by the bay

  • Pier 39 Sea Lions in California, United States

These guys never get old. A San Francisco must-see.

  • Alcatraz Island in California, United States

No trip to San Francisco is complete without a visit to one of the most infamous prisons in the US (and perhaps the world!). The tour is fascinating and worth every penny. As a bonus, the ferry ride over to the island is a treat in itself. However, the tour sells out well in advance so plan ahead. For those last minute travelers (like me!), a few day-of tickets are released each morning but you need to rise early and stand in line.

  • Crissy Field in California, United States

This is the best spot in the city for a picnic with the quintessential Golden Gate Bridge views. It's windy on most days so wear layers and bring a kite!

There are so many ways to see the bridge. The bright red span is visible throughout the city but if you are feeling a bit adventurous, you can rent a bike and ride across. There is a dedicated pedestrian/bike path so it is safe from traffic. However, it is super windy and cold on most days so prepare for unseasonably harsh weather.
